Lesson length:

Students up to grade 6:                       45 minutes or longer

Students in grade 7 or higher:            60 minutes or longer

Adults:                                                        60 minutes or longer

Tuition for the Studio school calendar term covers 40 lessons with Donna Riesen, over the 10-month period from September thru June. Six months of the year will have an average of three private lessons and one group class. Four months will have an average of four private lessons. There will be three weeks without any lessons during the school term, which will be published in the studio calendar and on the website. Monthly tuition remains constant regardless of the number of lessons received in any given month. Tuition for the 40 lessons is divided into ten equal monthly installments. Tuition is due at the first lesson of the month. Tuition received after the tenth day of the month will be considered late and will incur a $25 late fee for each 30-day period that payment is not made in full. A $25 fee will be charged for checks rejected for non-sufficient funds. No partial enrollment is accepted. However, students may enroll at any time during the year; their tuition will be pro-rated.

Summer lessons may be purchased in four-lesson packages, and may be used as the Student’s and the Studio’s schedules permit.

Tuition covers the following services: private lessons, group classes, studio recitals, preparation for auditions, competitions, recitals and exams, lending library items (books, music, CD's, tapes and videos), extended lessons when needed and phone/personal consultations and interviews. Checks should be made payable to:  Donna Riesen.

Tuition is non-refundable.

REGISTRATION FEE

A $50 non-refundable Registration Fee and a Deposit Fee equivalent to one month’s tuition is due annually upon registration. Details are explained in the Studio Policy and Agreement form. Students enrolling in Certificate of Merit will also pay an additional deposit. The cost of materials and fees for participation in festivals, evaluations, competitions and other activities will be charged separately.

CALENDAR

MISSED LESSONS

Lessons cancelled or missed by Student will not be refunded, credited, or provided with a make-up lesson, whether such cancellation was anticipated or unanticipated. However, to help accommodate an occasional unavoidable change in student’s schedules, you can choose to be part of the Studio Swap List. If Student wakes up with an illness or is sent home from school due to illness, please call or e-mail Studio immediately to notify Studio. Student must be fever-free, vomit-free, and diarrhea-free for 24 hours before attending a lesson. Students will be allowed a maximum of four rescheduled, or swapped, lessons per school year. Lessons cancelled by the Teacher for any reason other than scheduled Studio closures or holidays, will be provided a make-up lesson, but will not be refunded or credited.

TARDINESS

A tardy Student shall have only the time remaining in their lesson slot.

TERMINATION OF LESSONS

Lessons are continuous and ongoing, Student may terminate lessons for any reason. To terminate lessons, Student must provide at least one month’s advance written notice to Studio, during which month the tuition has been paid in full. If Student does not provide one month’s advance written notice, the Studio shall retain the Deposit Fee. Studio may also terminate lessons for any reason, at the sole discretion of Studio. If Studio terminates lessons, tuition will be pro-rated up to the last lesson taken and a refund provided, if applicable.

STUDIO RULES OF CONDUCT

•Treat the Studio teacher, other students, and Studio property respectfully

•Leave all food and drinks (except water) outside the studio and waiting area.

•Remove shoes and wash hands before each lesson

•Remove any jewelry from wrists and fingers while at the piano and keep fingernails trimmed short.

•Do not chew gum, or wear hats or caps during the lesson.

•Young children should not be left unsupervised in the waiting area.

INVOLVEMENT OF PARENTS OR GUARDIANS

•The key to a child’s musical success is parent involvement and the priority the family places on music in the home. As a family, decide that practice will be a part of the day's activities.

•Sit with your student at the piano for a little one-on-one time. Listen to your student with encouragement and enthusiasm. Check to see that all assignments are being practiced and to offer support.

•The parents or guardians should provide a well-tuned piano (at least once a year), a metronome, and a quiet place to practice.

•The parents or guardians responsibilities include bringing the student to lessons on time, and picking them up on time.

•Please be sure to keep your email address updated with the teacher.

•Parents are encouraged to call or email if there are any concerns or questions. It is my goal to give your child a positive learning experience in a supportive and musical environment. A strong three-way relationship between student, parent, and teacher is the best guarantee of success.

At all times, the student’s best interests come first - musical and otherwise!

  1. Plato once said that music “is a more potent instrument than any other for education”.

  2. You will find many teachers of young children who would agree with him. Recent research has found that music uses both sides of the brain, a fact that makes it valuable in all areas of development. Music affects the growth of a child’s brain academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

MISSED LESSONS

Missed lessons are detrimental to a student’s progress, and they deprive me of a necessary income. Commitment to this activity must be given priority during your scheduled time. A student who does not attend a lesson will simply miss the benefit of that lesson. No credit will be granted if a student misses a lesson for going on vacation or for other special events during the school year. Please be assured that your tuition pays for far more than the time spent with your child (see “WhereDoesMyTuitionGo.doc” brochure).  Students who are ill should not come to their lesson, and will be given credit or makeup if a 24-hour notice has been provided. I reserve the right to send a student home if they arrive sick.  If they are only mildly ill, please email me and we will do a phone, Facetime or Skype lesson. To help accommodate an occasional unavoidable change in student’s schedules, students may trade their lesson time with another student using the Studio Swap List. .
